What Do These Standards Mean?
EN Standards can be difficult to understand, especially if you're not within the industry. For more information on these sandals and what these safety standards mean, keep reading the information below. For a more detailed breakdown of EN standards, including specific variations and codes, check out our handy guide to EN standards for footwear.
These safety sandals have the EN safety standard rating: EN ISO 20345: 2011 S1 and EN 62340-4-3. Let's break down what these mean:
- EN ISO 20345 2011: This is the overarching standard at which the safety requirements needed for all work footwear are met. This standard is then divided into several different classes which are rated and determined from a series of risk assessments that are conducted for different parts of the footwear.
- S1: This is the subcategory of the EN ISO 20345: 2011 rating mentioned above. 'S1' means that this footwear has protective toecaps, fully closed heels with energy absorption, antistatic properties and resistance to fuel oil.
- EN 61340-4-3: This pertains to ESD control and specifically addresses the requirements for insulating footwear used in environments where electrostatic discharge could cause damage to sensitive electronic equipment or pose a safety risk. This standard defines test methods and performance requirements for insulating footwear to ensure it effectively prevents the buildup and discharge of static electricity. Compliance with EN 61340-4-3 ensures that the insulating footwear meets the necessary standards for electrostatic discharge control, which is important in industries where static electricity can cause damage or disruptions.
What Other Footwear of the Same Standard is There?
We have a huge range of S1 level safety footwear available, featuring S1 Safety Trainers, S1 Safety Shoes, and S1 Safety Boots.
We also have a variety of ESD Safety Footwear, including ESD Safety Boots, ESD Safety Shoes and ESD Safety Trainers.
Where Can These Safety Sandals Be Worn?
Safety sandals enhance comfort and hygiene, since they allow for proper ventilation of the foot area - something which is often neglected or compromised with alternative safety footwear. Safety sandals are therefore ideal for use in the following environments and situations:
- In hot climates to enhance breathability and hygiene at work
- For light industrial work use, where intensive PPE is not needed
- For outdoor work with no or minimal safety hazards
- For indoor work with no or minimal safety hazards
Who Can Use the Portwest Anti-Static Sandals?
These ESD (Electrostatic discharge) sandals are ideal for a range of industries, including:
- Electronics Manufacturing for protection against ESD when handling electronics
- Semiconductor Industries to prevent damage to semiconductor components (and wearers)
- Computer and IT industries to reduce likelihood of damage to sensitive computer components
- Pharmaceuticals and Laboratories to prevent ESD from interfering with sensitive experiments and samples
- Aerospace and Defence to prevent compromising components such as avionics and computer systems
- Chemical Industries, for when wearers deal with flammable or explosions from static sparks
- Healthcare Industries for use with specialised equipment that could damage medical devices and procedures
Why Are Steel Toecaps and Midsoles Important?
Steel toecaps play an essential part in foot protection. This is for the following reasons:
- Steel Toecaps: These are located in the toe section of many safety sandals. They are necessary for the following reasons:
- They ensure compliance with the relevant safety rules and regulations
- They prevent foot fatigue for enhanced comfort of the wearer
- They protect against 200 joules of pressure (for protection against falling objects)
- They prevent injury caused by compression, (for example between hard surfaces or machinery)
- They prevent puncture and piercing injuries (for example caused by stepping on nails or other sharp objects)
What Other Steel Toe Capped Footwear is Available?
We have a range of Steel Toe Capped Boots, Steel Toe Capped Shoes, Steel Toe Capped Footwear, Steel Toe Capped Trainers and Steel Toe Capped Sandals for personal protection across a variety of industries.
Our Supplier Says:
"Microfibre sandal with perforated upper offers supreme breathability. Hook and loop fastening feature ensures optimum fit and convenient access for the wearer."
Easy Cleaning
These sandals are made out of water resistant microfibre, for a longer term footwear solution. This prevents water penetration and damage, helping your footwear to last as long as possible while also keeping feet dry. This is enhanced by the perforated upper design which circulates air, for sweat-free, dry and clean feet all day long.
- Upper: Water-resistant microfibre
- Sole: Rubber
Cleaning Instructions
- Use only soft brushes and water.
- Do not use substances like alcohol, thinners, gasoline, oil or any other chemicals.
- Keep the footwear, dry and clean, in a proper place at room temperature.
